The growth of the internet has not led to the decline of a very well established medium, radio. Far from it. Technology has enabled audio content to be streamed and consumed on-demand. The ubiquitous smartphone means accessing radio on demand has never been easier. Podcasts, one form of on-demand audio content, continue to be popular. Whatever your interest – be it sport, news or comedy, there will be a podcast for you.
For freelancers there is a wealth of great content out there. Here we picked nine productivity podcasts that provide tips and insights on how to work smarter and be more productive. Something we can all appreciate at this time of year.

1 The Tim Ferriss show
Tim Ferriss is an American author, entrepreneur and public speaker. He has written a series of books all related to productivity including The 4-Hour Workweek. His podcast offers more of the same, with interviews, insights and tips on how to be more productive.
In his own words, “Each episode, I deconstruct world-class performers from eclectic areas (investing, sports, business, art, etc.) to extract the tactics, tools, and routines you can use. This includes favorite books, morning routines, exercise habits, time-management tricks, and much more.”
2 Taking Note: A podcast by Evernote
Evernote is a note-taking and productivity tool. Its podcast interviews experts and creative thinkers on how they come up with great ideas and organise their work.
If you are an Evernote fan than you will also pick up some tips on using the tool.
3 The 5 AM Miracle with Jeff Sanders
This is a hugely popular weekly podcast that offers practical tips on how to get things done. From drawing up schedules to time management. Sanders promises to “help you bounce out of bed with enthusiasm, create powerful lifelong habits, and tackle your grandest goals with extraordinary energy”.
4 The Accidental Creative
Accidental Creative is an agency that helps individuals and teams work more effectively.
Podcast host Todd Henry, author of The Accidental Creative, Die Empty, and Louder Than Words, interviews artists, authors and business leaders, and offers tips for how to thrive in life and work.
5 Getting things done
Host of the podcast David Allen is an expert on personal organisation. He published Getting Things Done 15 years ago which his approach to organising work and life. The Getting Things Done podcast provides monthly insights into Allen’s methodology and other insights to help become more organised and productive.
6 Beyond the to-do list
In this podcast, host Erik Fisher interviews a range of productivity experts. The subjects are broad and include balancing work and family life, caffeine and screen curfews and working intentionally. Sign up and you’ll receive two episodes a month.
7 The Upgrade by Lifehacker
This is the podcast version of the Lifehacker website, which is full of tips and tricks to hack life. From technology tips to scientific advice, there’s a wide range of topics on offer.
8 The Productivityist
Host Mike Vardy is a ‘productivity strategist’ and each episode features a guest who provides insights into their area of expertise. Topics are diverse and include decluttering, the power of relationship marketing, better eating to be more productive and visual note taking.
9 The Action Catalyst with Rory Vaden
Host Rory Vaden provides tips on getting more done and being more self-disciplined. He also features experts and thought leaders each week. Recent episodes cover topics such as facing up to entrepreneurial fear and creating an income-generating schedule.
