Our Learning Landscape is Changing

Covid-19 has changed our world, there’s no doubt. In fact, many are saying L&D will never be the same again.

Change is afoot; the demand for new skills (and a loss of interest in others) shows the potential future we’re entering. Here’s what we’ve seen both pre and post-Covid.

Rises since Covid-19 hit

We’ve seen a massive shift in the demand for some freelancers, with less ‘common’ skills being requested much more heavily since Covid-19 hit: 325% rise in requests for Project Managers

Skills less commonly ‘used’ in L&D are now becoming prime requests, with elevated requests in new expertise.

  • 50% increase in demand for Learning Experience Designers
  • 375% higher requests for Community Managers, compared to Q1

Why? L&D begins to focus on the Learner Experience. Engagement, interaction, connection and conversations.

Demand slows for traditional skills

  • Instructional designers 40% decrease
  • Elearning Developers 62% decrease BUT demand for Evolve and Elucidat Developers increased by 50% and 45% respectively.
  • Animators 90% decrease

Emerging roles in L&D

L&D is finally starting to look outside itself for new skills. We’re seeing emerging trends in several new areas.

Optimisation

L&D appears to be seeking new skills in areas where they can evolve or enhance what they already have, particularly when it comes to taking tech to the limits.

Researchers

L&D has started to seek specialists outside of L&D to better understand complex tech areas such as AI, chatbots and VR.

Tech Support

Technology and ecosystems need to play nice and L&D has started to realise this. There’s a growing demand for integration specialists, data experts and those who can help get systems talking to each other, fast.

Is your business prepared for these inevitable changes? If you think you might need some new skills, we’re working with expert, skilled freelancers from both inside and outside the L&D industry.
